Release notes
What changed, version by version.
Newest first. The six sections are 3D MODEL, PARTS, DRAW, PDF, WELDING and PROJECT.
Versions 0.6.5 through 0.6.8 shipped as hand-delivered early-access installers. Versions 0.4.1 through 0.4.8 were internal builds and were never installed outside Indolent Designs; they are listed so the numbering has no gaps.
v0.7.0 2026-09-12
The first release you can buy online. Indolent CAD can now be bought, activated and kept up to date without a hand-delivered installer.
Licensing and purchase
- One offer: a single named seat at $249.99 per year. There is no trial and no tier table.
- BUY NOW on the product site opens a secure Stripe checkout.
- Your licence key is emailed to you once the order completes.
- Settings > LICENSE shows your licence term, seat 1 of 1, and a BUY / RENEW button; an expired licence says so plainly. The licence key is shown masked, never in full.
- The app quietly refreshes your entitlement at launch and every 24 hours, so a paid seat does not lapse mid-term. Renewing extends the term.
Updates
- Settings > UPDATES: choose STABLE (signed updates from Indolent) or OFF.
- On STABLE the app checks shortly after launch, at most once a day. When a new version is out, an UPDATE AVAILABLE banner shows its release notes and an INSTALL AND RESTART button.
- Updates are downloaded from Indolent's releases page and every one is signed. An update whose signature does not check out is refused and nothing is installed.
Product
- 3D MODEL: new solid tools. SWEEP runs a profile along a path, LOFT blends between sections in order, PIPE routes pipe along a sketched run at the size you pick, and SHELL hollows a solid to a wall thickness. COMMON keeps only the volume two bodies share.
- Menu bars across the top of all six sections. Every menu item opens the tool where it lives on the toolbar, so you learn where it is.
- 3D MODEL: a SELECTION TOOLS pane, and corner grab points are now off until you turn them on, for a clean first look at a model.
- 3D MODEL: export a flat plate to DXF as a burn profile with its holes, using the same writer as PARTS. A model that is not a flat plate (rolled, stepped, pocketed or more than one body) is refused with the reason instead of being exported wrong. Chamfered or filleted edges export the full blank and say so on the NOTES layer.
- The user manual ships with the app: Settings > HELP > USER MANUAL, and as a file in the install folder.
Fixes
- When the licence server refuses a request (not activated, renewal due, usage limit reached, or a module not on your licence) the app now says which, in one plain sentence, instead of a generic error, and it does not retry the refused request.
- "No AI backend is set up" and "Not connected" messages now tell you where in Settings to fix it.
Legal
- The final End User License Agreement (version 1.0) ships with the installer.
- The installer includes the third-party notices for the open-source components Indolent CAD uses, and explains how to request the source code of the LGPL-licensed components.
- One support address everywhere: support@indolent.design.
v0.6.8 2026-08-19
- PDF: the ARROW markup tool has a working hotkey (5). MAKE THIS PART stays on F.
- PROJECT: items in a job's trash can be deleted permanently one at a time, or all at once with EMPTY TRASH; both confirm with the count and size first.
- PROJECT: DELETE JOB and DUPLICATE JOB on the job rail. A deleted job moves to a recoverable folder rather than being erased, and a job another seat has open cannot be deleted from under them. Duplicating suggests the next job number and resets counters and logs.
- Closes the PROJECT and PDF audit: 49 of 49 findings addressed across 0.6.7 and 0.6.8.
v0.6.7 2026-08-19
- PROJECT: a duplicate job number is refused; a job whose binder cannot be read shows a plain error instead of an empty job; EXPORT ALL stops if the cut list is stale; OPEN JOB follows the highlighted row; the jobs table is fully keyboard-driven; real confirmation dialogs replace browser pop-ups; NEW JOB suggests the next number.
- PDF: encrypted PDFs are refused on every write path with a clear message; ALL PAGES calibration is off by default and merges when on; compare panes clamp and report errors; per-page undo; PNG print can be cancelled and fits to paper; a 100 MB cap with a warning at 50 MB; search gains STOP, match-case and whole-word; a right-click menu on sheets; drag to reorder pages and extract a range; page labels everywhere.
v0.6.6 2026-08-01
- Every button in the app shares one focus, disabled and press behaviour, so keyboard users always see where they are.
- A geometry guard refuses degenerate solids before they reach a drawing or an NC1 file.
- Verified on the packaged build before shipping: NC1 files written with CRLF line endings only; the cut-list PDF embeds its four fonts.
v0.6.5 2026-08-01
- PROJECT: the RFI form is reachable from the job. It renders a real RFI with a log entry and a file named per the document-control schema. Attachments, export and send-by-email arrive in later releases.
- Desktop: the app's file commands are jailed to the shop folder and the outputs folder.
v0.6.4 2026-07-31
- Version bump only; carries the 0.6.3 polish work into a single build.
v0.6.3 2026-07-30
- Drawings: every arrowhead now draws one ASME Y14.2 dart (3:1). Every leader has a horizontal landing, engine and desktop alike. Text widths are measured per character, so leaders no longer overshoot or undershoot the note.
- Toolbars: 40 controls that sat in one non-wrapping row now wrap into a MORE panel with icon-only and compact modes. Panels drag-resize and remember it. A customize dialog can hide, reorder and resize; pinned controls cannot be hidden by a hand-edited settings file.
- PROJECT: the RFI renders as a real form and log on the engine side; the picker, export and mailto button ship in 0.6.5.
- Gate for this release: 3,298 engine tests passed; 454 of 454 end-to-end tests passed; the packaged engine was driven before bundling and its arrowheads measured 3:1.
v0.6.2 2026-07-29
- 3D MODEL: BREAK on a pinned member bakes the last resolved position onto the part, so removing a pin leaves the steel where you put it instead of snapping it back to the sketch plane.
v0.6.1 2026-07-29
- 3D MODEL: joints persist with the document. 0.6.0 lost connection pieces on reopen; a document saved with joints re-emits its base plate, anchor rods, cap plate and clip pieces after a restart.
v0.6.0 2026-07-29
The 3D-core campaign, in the 3D MODEL section:
- Point and plane selection, 3D snapping, references that survive an edit.
- Two-point members, a modelling grid, typed pins.
- Connections on hand-drawn members, with fitting-versus-cut reporting.
- Any-plane sketching: sketch on any plane, face or created plane.
v0.5.2 2026-07-25
- Fixed a drawing export that could hang in the 3D MODEL section.
- The engine now reports the same version as the app. Earlier builds stamped an older engine version into the automatic drawing-check record; that traceability defect is corrected.
v0.5.1 2026-07-20
- Privacy: SEND FEEDBACK includes nothing beyond what the dialog shows you.
- Safety: the AI helper runs with its tools isolated from your files.
- Every NC1 file is re-read and verified against the model as it is written.
v0.5.0 2026-07-20
- Shop standards: one resolver applies your shop's hole, edge-distance and material defaults to every prompt.
- Ten colour themes; Navy is the default.
- Closes the FINISH-THE-PLAN campaign: every item from the product plan is built, tested and merged.
v0.4.1 through v0.4.8 2026-07-16 to 2026-07-20, internal builds
- 0.4.1: one weight per sheet, with honest roll-ups when a part cannot be read or a tree is capped; a banner when a tree is capped; marked-up PDFs flatten by default.
- 0.4.2: the shop-feedback wave from the first week of early access.
- 0.4.3 through 0.4.8: the six waves of the FINISH-THE-PLAN campaign, booked one version per wave. No installer was produced; their work reached shops in 0.5.0.
v0.4.0 2026-07-12
- STRUCTURES: CANOPY (sloped roof with purlins) and STAIRS (uniform risers, MC stringers, treads, rails), with a scale guard on footprints over 24 in.
- STRUCTURES: base plates under every column, handrails seated on the stringer, grating by series (19-W-4 and the rest), a clear error pin when a platform cannot be built.
- STRUCTURES: ASSEMBLY joins a platform and a stair on a chosen edge as one unit with a combined BOM, weight and drawing, and per-member NC1.
- Import: DXF and PDF references lock at zero degrees of freedom so they cannot drift; detail-DXF layer clean-up; a 3D MODEL import builds a 3D part.
- Cut lists from Tekla PowerFab exports in millimetres are detected and converted.
- This build was unsigned; Windows SmartScreen warned on install.
v0.3.0 2026-07-12
- STRUCTURES: from a plan sketch to a framed PLATFORM in one step: columns at the points you pick, perimeter and equal-bay infill beams, grating or plate deck, handrail runs on the edges you choose. Every piece gets a mark and an NC1 file; the total weight is checked against a closed-form hand sum.
- Shared shop folder: point the app at a shared drive (UNC paths work) and projects, catalog, library and outputs live there for every seat. Licence, settings and drafts stay on the local machine. Advisory locks show who has what open; an override is logged.
- Fixed hole containment for a circle inside a circle.
v0.2.1 2026-07-11
- Double-click a .step, .stp, .dxf, .nc1 or .indolent file to open it in Indolent CAD; drag files onto the window; one app instance handles every file.
- QUICK VIEWER: a read-only view of any supported file with CONVERT TO PART.
- 3D sheets dimension in shop fractions with no diagonal leaders.
- NEW SKETCH PART is retired; sketching lives in the 3D MODEL section.
v0.2.0 2026-07-11
The 3D suite and the launch kit.
- 3D MODEL: constrained sketching, extrude, revolve, fillet, chamfer, mirror, patterns; steel members placed on work lines by AISC designation across every rolled family; sketch on a face; per-face picking.
- Exports: STEP, STL, GLB, and one NC1 per member with holes cut in 3D written as BO rows.
- Drawings from 3D with hidden-line views.
- The 2D SketchPad full pass: full-screen, mirror and fillet, typed dimensions, object snaps.
- PDF and DXF import with two-pick calibration in both sketchers.
- SEND FEEDBACK from inside the app.
- Licensing: activation keys, expiry and seat enforcement.
- The 13-chapter user manual.
